What is the Trans-FARM-ative Project's mission and focus?

The Trans-FARM-ative Project is dedicated to fostering inclusivity, promoting agricultural sustainability, and providing economic viability to locally grown agricultural products in Rhode Island. Our primary focus is on empowering and supporting low or no-income LGBTQ+ individuals through sustainable agriculture.

How can I support the Trans-FARM-ative Project's mission?

You can support our mission by contributing your time and skills, funding, or gifts-in-kind, which will help us expand our fully accessible raised beds, increase our planting area, and create a more inclusive and education-driven project. This will have a positive impact on the LGBTQ+ community, as well as the broader agricultural ecosystem in Rhode Island.

What are the current outcomes of the project, and why is expansion necessary?

Currently, we have 200 square feet of growing space, yielding approximately 550 pounds of produce. While we've been providing fresh, healthy produce to low or no-income LGBTQ individuals, we recognize the pressing need to expand. With your support, we plan to expand to 1000 square feet and increase our annual yield to approximately 3700 pounds. This expansion is crucial to reaching and helping more members of the LGBTQ+ community.

How will my contributions be used to enhance sustainability and accessibility?

Your support will be used to integrate a rain collection system into our watering system, reducing water usage and increasing sustainability. We'll also expand our cold beds to extend the growing season. Accessibility is a fundamental principle, and grant funds will ensure that most of our facilities are ADA-accessible. This includes pathways, garden beds, and educational spaces, ensuring equitable access for individuals with disabilities.

Can you tell me more about the LGBTQ youth agricultural education program?

Our LGBTQ youth agricultural education program is a vital part of our project. It empowers the next generation with the knowledge and skills needed for sustainable agriculture. The program also offers a safe and supportive space for LGBTQ youth to learn, grow, and connect with their community.
